First Post! The Begining...

Ok, so this whole "blog" thing is really new to me. So let's see if I keep up with this, or even have enough to talk about. Soooo... I'm a first time mommy and my little man, Connor, is 11 months and 4 days old. (Yeah, I know... counting the days to the first birthday.) It's been an interesting, amazing, wonderful and at times frightful experience being a first time mom. Hahaha... as I type Connor is pulling everything out of my Coach purse. I should probably teach him that men should not go through a lady's purse... no telling what you might find in that bottomless pit!

Anywho, back to MommyWorld. Ok, so without going to crazily into my pregnancy, here's the gist of it. Hubby and I found out I was pregnant right around Thanksgiving (by the way, hate when people say "WE are pregnant". No dude, you're wife is pregnant, you're just along for the ride!) We were very excited. We had a lot of scary times during the pregnancy. Again, without going into too much detail, from about 12 weeks on, the Doc wasn't sure if baby was 100% ok. In my 9 months of being pregnant we met with a genetic counselor, had an amnio, met with a pre-natal cardiologist. It seems like every time we met with one doctor, they would say "well that looks ok, but I'm concerned about this"

At 27 weeks I started having monthly ultrasounds and non-stress tests twice a week. Needless to say, I had a pretty stressful pregnancy. Everything was looking pretty good. At about 35 weeks I started getting super itchy, pretty much all over my body. And when I say itchy, I mean REALLY itchy! As a first time mom, I just assumed it was just a weird pregnancy reaction.  My next appoint with my doc was at my 37 week appointment. At the end of the appointment I decided to ask her about it. I really didn't think it was anything, but I asked anyways. Thank God I asked. Right away she said she was concerned that it was Cholestasis of pregnancy. She told me a little bit about it and how your liver isn't working properly and causes a back up of bile. The biggest concern of this is the high risk of still born babies. She also tells me that most women that have this are induced by 36 weeks. So here I am, 37 weeks pregnant and nervous as hell. She sent me to the lab for testing right away. Later that night I get a call from the doc. She asks if I've had dinner yet. When I tell her yes, she tells me to come in right away because I'm being induced tonight. I couldn't tell you how scared I was.

Well, being induced wasn't my ideal way to have a baby, but it had to be done. The induction process took about 3 days (most was relatively comfortable) I most say though, those last couple of hours were some awful, awful pain! haha! Didn't really help that I didn't get my epidural until I was 9.5 cm!! Connor was born weighing 5 lbs 14 oz and he gave us a little scare with not breathing right away. NICU was there and everything was ok. They didn't even need to take him out of the room. I barely remember those moments because the epi had kicked in full force (a little too late!) But I will never forget them handing him to me right after he was born and thinking, "I did this!" (with a little help from the hubby of course!)

Ok, so that's the story of the Connor and the begining of my life in MommyWorld. More to come!
